CDS Coalition requests FDA rescind final decision support guidance

The CDS Coalition is asking the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to pull back on its clinical decision support guidance in order to ensure that the agency better balances its regulatory oversight with the healthcare sector’s need for innovation, while comporting with the statutory language of the 21st Century Cures Act. ‘Flagrant’ disregard for Congressional law and intent
The coalition’s stakeholders – clinical decision support software developers, patient advocacy organizations, clinical societies, healthcare providers and healthcare payers – say the FDA’s guidance exceeds Congress’s statutory definitions of what is considered CDS and threatens to undermine lawmakers’ goals.

Epic remains Best in KLAS for overall software suite for 13th year

In addition to winning overall, Epic was named top Overall Physician Practice Vendor based on provider feedback in this year’s Best in KLAS awards. The health IT giant also earned plaudits in 13 other categories, the research firm announced Wednesday.Of note, Impact Advisors and Nordic are tied as co-winners of the Overall IT Services category. 
Impact Advisors also took top placements in ERP Implementation Leadership, Financial Improvement Consulting and Security & Privacy Consulting Services categories while Nordic won for HIT Core Clinical Implementation Leadership.

Doctors across India can now access an AI clinical decision support tool from Apollo Hospitals.Last year, the hospital chain launched the Apollo Clinical Intelligence Engine (CIE), a self-learning engine that analyses symptoms, determines causes, and helps recommend the best course of action. 
The technology, which is built, maintained, and periodically reviewed by an in-house team of over 500 Apollo doctors and specialists, is capable of analysing huge amounts of data – it has over 1,300 conditions and 800 symptoms in its vocabulary at present – to help identify patterns that may be otherwise missed by manual diagnoses.

This year’s theme, “Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV,” emphasizes accountability and action.
